Boom Chalet FAQ

Answers to the questions guests ask most about staying at Boom Chalet, our modern cabin on Lewis Creek, 9 miles from Yosemite’s South Entrance.

Booking & Policies

What are check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is 3:00 PM and check-out is 11:00 AM. Direct bookers get early check-in or late check-out whenever the calendar allows, so just ask when you book.

Why should I book direct instead of on Airbnb or Vrbo?

You save about 10% because there are no platform service fees, you get our best rate guaranteed, and you deal directly with Devin before and during your stay. Booking is instant on our Book Direct page.

What is your cancellation policy?

You get a full refund if you cancel more than 30 days before your arrival date. Cancellations within 30 days of arrival are not refunded, so we recommend travel insurance.

Are pets allowed?

Sorry, no pets. Boom Chalet is a pet-free cabin.

Can we smoke at the cabin?

No. Boom Chalet is non-smoking inside and out, and fire safety matters a lot in the Sierra forest.

Is Boom Chalet a licensed rental?

Yes. Boom Chalet is a licensed vacation rental in Madera County (#2024-1058).

The Cabin

How many people does Boom Chalet sleep?

Up to 5 guests, including kids. The primary bedroom has a King bed and an XL Twin, and the second bedroom has a Queen bed.

What is the layout? Are there stairs?

The cabin is on three levels with interior stairs. The great room, kitchen, dining area, a full bath with tub and the back deck are on the upper level. Both bedrooms and a second full bath are on the lower level, and the garage with the washer and dryer is on the ground level.

Is there Wi-Fi? Can I work remotely?

Yes. Fast Wi-Fi covers the whole cabin and handles streaming and video calls.

Is there air conditioning?

No, and you won’t miss it most of the year. Boom Chalet sits at about 4,500 feet, so it runs cooler than the valley floor, especially in the evenings. The great room has a ceiling fan, and for cold days there is central heat plus the wood stove.

What about power outages?

An automatic whole-house backup generator keeps the power, heat and Wi-Fi running during regional outages.

Is the kitchen stocked?

Yes. It has all major appliances, cookware, sharp knives, dishes and glassware, pantry basics, and a coffee bar with whole beans, a burr grinder and a drip coffee maker.

Is there a fireplace?

Yes, a wood-burning stove in the great room, with plenty of firewood provided. The cabin also has central heat.

Is there laundry?

Yes. A full-size washer and dryer are in the garage, with detergent and softener provided.

Is Boom Chalet good for kids?

Very. Kids love the creek, and the cabin has two small kids’ bikes, lots of Legos, games and puzzles, plus cornhole on the back deck. We don’t have a crib or high chair, so bring your own if you need one.

Getting There & Parking

Where is Boom Chalet?

How long is the drive to Yosemite Valley?

Yosemite Valley is about 40 miles away via Highway 41 and the South Entrance. Plan on roughly an hour and a half each way, longer in peak season.

Is there parking?

Yes. Private off-street parking for up to 2 cars sits right in front of the cabin. Sorry, no RVs or trailers.

Do I need chains or 4WD in winter?

Usually no, but occasionally yes. Sugar Pine gets snow in winter and plowing can be slow, so carry chains from November through April and check road conditions before you drive. We’ll message you about winter weather and access before your stay. On very rare occasions, if the cabin becomes unreachable, we may redirect guests to a hotel for a night or two.

Where do I buy groceries?

Oakhurst, 10 miles south, has full grocery stores, restaurants and gas. Stock up there on your way in.
